ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Des Moines Water Works ran its Fleur Drive facility at full capacity for over 66 days as high nitrate levels pushed the plant close to its design limits—COO Kyle Danley said the facility, which cleans up to 10 million gallons daily with eight nitrate removal tankers, would need 26 tankers if levels remain high, but adding more is not feasible due to excess wastewater concerns. Plans to expand other treatment plants and work with upstream partners may help lower nitrate levels before treatment resumes.  KCCI

HEALTH NEWS

  • A University of Iowa study found that high blood pressure during pregnancy increased the risk of seizures in children — similar findings were observed in samples from Iowa, California, and Taiwan. Dr. Bassuk said pregnant women should get regular prenatal care — managing blood pressure may help protect their babies’ brain development.  KCCI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Jaedon Murphy, Miranda Gerdes, and Riley Murphy run The Outside Scoop—a mobile shop that serves homemade ice cream during the summer. Their business offers a fun treat for ice cream lovers in the local community.  WHO 13
