EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Iowa Department of Education reported today that 45,328 education savings account applications were received for the 2025-26 school year and 43,784 have been approved—this is the first year the program is open to all Iowa students and the application window closed on June 30. Funding will be available on July 15 and the higher number of approved applications may cost $349 million compared with the $314 million budgeted for 40,000 scholarships.  KCCI

  • Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitl announced his campaign for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional district on social media on July 8. He said his run will focus on strong + conservative leadership as Congressman Randy Feenstra began his campaign for governor in May.  WHO 13
  • The Iowa Department of Transportation introduced a remote-controlled truck that fills potholes from the driver's seat—this new machine, costing a half-million dollars, was deployed after a deadly accident near Council Bluffs raised safety concerns for workers on busy highways.  KCCI
  • Today, the Iowa State Patrol is asking the public to vote online so a photo of its patrol cars—taken in front of the Field of Dreams farmhouse in Dyersville—ranks among the top 13 entries to be included in the 2026 Best Looking Cruiser calendar; the agency previously made the calendar in 2021 and 2024.  WHO 13
