Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 28th of July.
Good morning, Ankeny.
🎓 Education
13-year-old Ava Weitl from Waukee celebrated her return to school after nearly two years away following a heart transplant and a kidney transplant — her teachers at Eason Elementary surprised her with a pink-clad clap-out celebration.
She will start seventh grade soon and continues her recovery with regular doctor visits as her family values being home with loved ones for healing.
🌲 Environment
Heavy rain in July soaked fairgrounds and locked boat access at Oak Grove Beach, forcing fair organizers to delay camping and prompting agencies to close some boat ramps until water levels fall.
Officials noted the 8.77 inches recorded ranks as the seventh wettest on record—leaving locals hoping for a break in the storms to save summer plans.
