Des Moines Biergarten will host a free three-day Oktoberfest from Friday, Sept.
18 to Sunday, Sept. 20 at Water Works Park, featuring live music + authentic German food with interactive contests. Ankeny residents can also join a local celebration at Prairie Trail on Sept. 25-26.
🏥 Health
Several Iowa state beaches, including Big Creek, have issued swimming advisories this month due to high E. coli levels that have repeatedly closed the shore.
The warnings have slowed beach activity and affected business at Big Creek Marina, though water in deeper areas remains safe for boating + fishing.
