  • Former Whiskey River bartender Taylor Schealler sued after being fired last November for calling 911 during a bar fight— a judge ruled that Iowa’s anti-retaliation laws do not protect her claim. Schealler’s lawyers said they are disappointed and urged lawmakers to review the law.  KCCI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, hundreds attended a public forum at Sheslow Auditorium at Drake University to learn about a water quality study commissioned in 2023 by the Polk County Board of Supervisors that examined nitrate levels in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers.   • The Ankeny City Council voted to annex more than 1,300 acres of land northeast of city limits east of I-35 and north of Costco. City leaders said data showed growth even though development slowed— they plan to use the land for new homes, businesses and retail space over coming decades.  KCCI
