MidAmerican Energy is proposing a $2.89 monthly rate increase for natural gas rates to help cover distribution costs and state regulators will review the proposal next February — Iowans shared their opinions at a public hearing Wednesday and can submit comments until then.
🌲 Environment
Iowa landowners are asked to report monarch roost sightings this fall to help researchers track butterflies migrating to Mexico.
The consortium will release tagged monarchs in September and asks for photos, counts, dates, tree types, and location details (via email) or through the Project Monarch app.
🏛️ Government
Central Iowa Water Works is planning a $1.2 billion series of upgrades — including a new West Plant and expansions at Saylorville and Grimes — to meet growing demand, with projects expected to come online within five years.
Funding includes a mix of state appropriations and ratepayer support.
