- ➤ In 1985, a family near St. Charles discovered a complete woolly mammoth skeleton on a riverbank while fishing, and experts from the University of Iowa later determined the bones are about 60,000 years old, indicating the animal was a teenager when it died. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ DMACC held a ribbon cutting Thursday for its new Albaugh Family Transportation Institute—an 8600 sq ft $9 million facility that doubles its capacity to train 500 CDL students per year, and the center includes three classrooms, a two story inspection bay, study areas, a 12 acre driving course and a motorcycle training center to help address the shortage of commercial drivers in Iowa and nationwide. - ➤ The National Alliance on Mental Health will host the NAMIWalks Iowa event Saturday, September 27th at Terra Park in Johnston—registration will open at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 10:30 a.m. to raise funds for mental health services statewide. KCCI
